Picking a poker username?

Posted on August 30, 2008

I have just downloaded Full Tilt Poker and am ready to create an account on it in order to play.

However, what sort of user name should I decide on choosing? My real name for example, or an alias that has nothing to do with my real identity?

I already know some pretty cool alias' that i've used in the past for other things, but is it ideal to use your real name…especially if for example you become pro in a few years time? Would they use an alias??

That's all, thanks!

Answer:
I selected fictional names from the motion picture Spinal Tap for a few different poker sites. Every now and again someone will type in “Tap rules!” or something but for the most part they are pretty anonymous. For others I used a town near by that sounds like a funny name.

I'd avoid using your real name, but if you do, I'd avoid using your last name. Just a tiny added security. Also keep in mind that what you think is original or clever might already be taken! So have a few in mind, and don't be disappointed if your number 1 choice isn't available.

Answer:
The best advice is to use a user name that doesn't reveal anything about yourself. I use a variation of ZCT myself, which even though means something to me, isn’t likely to reveal anything worthwhile to any other player.

If you call yourself FLga⩹. It might imply that you’re a female from FL who is 34. While that’s not that important, especially if you’re not any of those things, it can affect how you’re perceived at the table. Like people who call themselves CallingStation777. Indicating you might like to call and believe in luck at the poker table.

Of course I'm sure many people play quite the opposite of the name they use. But I like to remain fairly anonymous, so as to fly under the radar and not give away any valuable information.

Answer:
Don’t select a too enticing username as if you are a good poker player other users would be scared from playing with you. Select a name such as xxx2001 with a mix of numbers and letters.

Answer:
I enjoy using Full Tilt, and most people I've come across use an alias.

If you became pro, people would know your name anyway. Plus people remember quirky usernames/ nicknames compared to bog standard names.

Answer:
It's just tilt poker. Use an alias. In a “few years time” who knows if Full Tilt Poker will even still be around? If you’ll even become a pro? Never use your real identity.

Answer:
Try lucky.
